In fact, if it was not for the Kumano Travel bureau, we would never have been able to visit Wakayama prefecture. The Tanabe City Kumano Tourism Bureau website already provides a lot of very helpful information, e.g. timetables, updated information re: road closures, sightseeing info, coin locker info. It's easily the most helpful regional tourism site I've ever used over 4 visits to Japan.

It was amazing to spend two days walking the Kumano Kodo. What a shame some parts of the trail were closed due to typhon in september. Spending several nights in Minshukus and enjoying the local food was also very interesting. We also loved soaking in several onsens!!!!

good and easy to find information and make reservations

Hiking on Kumano Kodo and visiting Kumano Hongu Taisha were absolutely remarkable experiences. Also, the village of Yunomine Onsen was wonderful and the onsen in the ryokan very enjoyable. Last but not least, I also enjoyed the train ride from Nagoya to Shingu very much!

I have never encountered a tourism bureau with such a great website and so terrific assistance! With your help foreign tourists can even enjoy the relatively remote area of Tanabe/Hongu and have quite a unique experience of Japan. Thank you very much again!!!

I'm so impressed with the Kumano travel website. I'll be doing the Nakahechi trail and the comprehensive information has made it a breeze to organise transport, accommodation and hiking maps.

Walking part of the Kumano Kodo was one of the best experiences we had. We want to thank you for all the great service for making our visit to the Kumano region successful (the best informative website we encountered during our preparations for the journey, the personal advice and assistance regarding our traveling scheme in the region with bus and pick-up by the guest house). Also we want to thank you for the perfect and kind service when we were in Tanabe (visit of Noriko to the guesthouse in Tanabe, the extra provided information and maps, and our personal taxi to the ATM). You really helped us to have a great experience. We were very happy to see that the Kumano route was very well signed during the walking.

We were extremely happy with the service of Tanabe City Kumano Tourism Bureau! Without the English website, we wouldn't have dared to walk the Kumano Kodo, as we do not speak/read Japanese. Thanks to the downloadable maps, audio guide and bus time tables, it was possible to plan our trip ahead. We also appreciated the guesthouse booking page a lot, because we otherwise never would have found those sleeping places on the web. Excellent service!!!

Walking The nakahechi route itself was the most enjoyable. Swimming in the river/onsen at Kawayu was excellent! The takahara kiri no sato ryokan was a lovely location to spend the night.

I made an excellent choice by selecting the Tanabe City Kumano Tourism Bureau/Kumano Travel reservation site!

The Kumano Kodo walk was very beautiful. A lot of guidebooks rave about the walk in the Kiso Valley but do not mention the Kumano Kodo. This is unfortunate because this trip, we did both and we found the Kumano walk to be far superior in terms of scenic beauty and meaning. Coupled with the audio guide we downloaded, the walk became one infused with meaning and significance. We had timed our visit to coincide with the Hongu spring matsuri and were delighted to find a wonderful village event come alive with the festivities.

I enjoyed very much the walking time, because there were very few people (in fact, most of the days I did not see anybody in the whole day), so I could feel the silence and the quietness of the woods. It was also very interesting all the historic explanations about tea houses, ancient shrines, leyends, views, and so on. Visiting small villages and trying to speak with the people (my Japanese is still very little) was moving and exciting. Food was another good point, as I could try the local cousine. Onsen are great.

We very much enjoyed our Kumano Kodo path/walk. Due to the fact that we walked this in January, there were very few people. We found it to be an excellent way to exercise not only our bodies, but also out spirit and minds! We very much enjoyed the Takahara lodge as well. We found the view to be breathtaking and the lodge, the people and the baths really enhanced the experienced to a level that really exceeded our expectations. The shrine in Hongu was beautiful and well worth the visit. We want to come back and do the rest of the Kumono Kodo!
