Onsen (Hot Springs) 温泉
Wakayama Prefecture is home to many beautiful hot spring areas both in the mountains and by the ocean. Ryujin Onsen is famous for its beautifying waters and the Hongu Onsen area has three distict hot springs very close to each other. Tsuboyu is a rare UNESCO World Heritage hotspring in Yunomine Onsen. Kawayu Onsen features a unique geological phenomenon where hot water from the depths of the earth acutally bubble up in the creek bed! Wataze Onsen is the largest rotenburo outdoor bath in western Japan. If you are looking for a place to relax in an isloated, traditional Japanese onsen village, Kumano is the ultimate destination.
