Are you an English-speaking guide for the Kumano Kodo?

Are you looking for a way to improve your guiding skills, become a more professional FIT guide, broaden your storytelling skills, and advance your safety and risk management assessment abilities?

Join the 2nd Kumano International Professional Guide Training held onsite of the UNESCO World Heritage Kumano Kodo in Hongu, Tanabe, Wakayama on January 21 and 22 (Saturday and Sunday), 2023, offered by the Tanabe City Kumano Tourism Bureau.

In the training, participants will learn:

  • Storytelling and themes,
  • Safety and risk management,
  • How to deal with various emergencies explicitly related to the Kumano Kodo.
  • Expectations of guides from the head manager of a local accommodation

Training features:

  • Guide-to-guide exchange,
  • Professional feedback from locally licensed guides,
  • Original text (English),
  • Completion certificate

More about the training

Training takes place over 2 days in Hongu, Tanabe, Wakayama – the first day (January 21) in seminar and discussion at the Kumano Hongu Heritage Center, the second day (January 22) onsite walking and doing presentations on the Kumano Kodo between Hosshinmon-oji and Kumano Hongu Taisha.

Walking course: Hosshinmon-oji to Kumano Hongu Taisha
Participants will stay overnight at Kawayu Midoriya.

Note: Class is offered only in English.
